Master Studio III
Faculty: Geoffrey Adams
This practical Studio project is a brewery in front of an important hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The main challenge was determining how to be uniquely responsive to this context. The resulting strategy involved adapting the proposed function in response to the existence of the hospital, while simultaneously ensuring that it would serve its own intended purpose. The addition of two floors of economical residential spaces to the proposal will accommodate people who are visiting their hospitalized relatives for a specific time period. The primary idea of the project relates to the juxtaposition of apartments with a continuous brewery throughout all the levels of the building. The brewery extends all the way up to the roof bar to make a public environment for both residents and guests. Circulation continues to this roof bar via a staircase that rolls around the envelope.
