Master Studio I
Faculty: Alex Webb, Molly Calvani
The agenda of this studio was to find a system in nature and interpret that system into architecture. Staghorn Coral reefs are one of the most fragile types of corals in the ocean. Based on all the data that was interpreted in grasshopper of the system and the coral behaviors in the scale of colony this Monolith cube has been created in in Rio Chama. This is the time that architecture tries to create an imaginative building that brings up a new definition about space. Nature Monolith is an art visiting center which is about architecture and its relationship to nature. It is about how to change our previous assumptions about the definition of spaces in building. It is about how to design a space and how to sit on this planet. All the architectural elements are extracted out of it and this giant alien is surrounded by architecture.
